DIS Group, the official print partner to Wolverhampton Wanderers FC has transformed the approach to the Players’ Tunnel at the Molineux Stadium using UFabrik ECO backlit material from CMYUK.

The refit has transformed the area between the changing rooms to the pitch from something dull yet serviceable into a dramatic space that communicates the club’s pride and potent ambition.

“The players themselves were instrumental in pushing for a refurbishment that would put them on a par with other national and European clubs. World class clubs regularly play at the Molineux stadium and the Wolves teams wanted to ensure that their territory was unequivocally defined.  The brief was to create an immersive, imposing space that left visiting players in no doubt what club they had entered,” said DIS Group, Sales Director, Dave Purcell.

The brief also required an area that was ever-changing, reflecting important current events at the club such as goal score celebrations, player sign-ups, new kit and sponsorships.

DIS Group was responsible for the design, production and installation of the job. It opted for the use of fourteen lightboxes ranging from 3m x 6m to 1m x 2.3m to create both ambient intensity and the ability to quickly update printed imagery.

Lightbox graphics were printed on an EFI VUTEk h3 and output onto UFabriK ECO Backlit material.  This quality textile is the bi-product of  recycled PET plastic bottle waste and is available exclusively from CMYUK.  It has a growing customer specification rate as it performs well and helps brands achieve their sustainability goals.

“Due to the fluid nature of this project,  we wanted to use an environmental material that could be easily recycled. At the start of the season, we printed over 120 sq. m of UFabrik but obviously these graphics will be changed as and when. The UFabrik Eco LED lightboxes and neon lighting have totally transformed the area, which before was devoid of any personality,” said Dave.

The remodelled space has been a hit with both players and club management. Charlotte Johnson, market manager at Wolves FC said, “We are all really wowed by this fantastic piece of digital corporate design. The look and feel of the project is affecting to both Wolves teams and visiting players. The fact that these lightbox graphics are made from waste plastic bottles is really impressive. Wolves FC is absolutely delighted.”

The refurbishment took 6 weeks to complete from start to finish.  All lightbox graphics will be recycled at end of life.
