An investment in a new EFI H1625 LED printer - inspired by a White Ink Workshop from wide format print specialists CMYUK - has proved a tremendous success for sign and graphics company Cowen Signs.

Digital Design Technician James Clarke explained that the printer's white ink capability was a crucial factor in the decision to invest after the team took advantage of the CMYUK White Ink Workshop. He said: "While the workshop demonstrated some exciting opportunities and got us thinking about how to apply white in the correct method using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, we had never had white ink on our previous printers and were still unsure if we would actually use it very much once the EFI was installed.

"We were so wrong! We now produce white ink prints every day, mainly for backlit displays and window graphics. We especially love the three layer white ink function, as we can now produce impressive day/night acrylic prints with ease."

Cowen Signs' new EFI H1625 LED was installed by CMYUK at their Birkenhead manufacturing facility in November 2015. James said they received excellent, comprehensive training from EFI engineers and that the support over the last year had far exceeded their expectations.

Discussing how the new printer had improved their production efficiency and boosted sales, he added: "The overall print quality and vibrant colours have been noticed by our customers and the new printer has drastically helped with turnaround times and winning new business.

"We offer conceptual design work and proofing, and print onto a wide array of industry standard and sustainable materials. The H1625 is mostly used to create wall graphics, large format signs, canvas, backlit displays, textiles and banners and thanks to the production aspect of the printer, we can now move a lot of our screen printing over to the EFI."

Cowen Signs cut and finish jobs in house and also install their own work using their dedicated fitting teams.

The company has an impressive history in the sign industry, manufacturing for some of the country's largest companies on some of the biggest projects since 1887. They are currently carrying out several rebrands for the UK's largest and brightest energy companies, fitting four sites a week, and they also produce a lot of internal environmental graphics for global brands like Unilever.

James concluded: "The outlook is really promising. Our turnover is up, our job capacity and throughput have increased massively and we are still growing. Investing smartly in the right technology, through specialist partners such as CMYUK - put together with the skills and dedication of our growing team of 16 full time staff - are key to our success."
